VIOLENCE, the neccesary evil?

  In support of the young men and women in U.S. uniform, I hope and pray they all come back unharmed. That being said, it is very difficult indeed to support any group or persons about to kill another human being. President Bush has decided to use the most archaic method known to man for advancing political and sociological ideals. Since the begining of history itself, war has been a tool for the advancement and progression of the ideas of many world leaders. Even before the historical record was being written, violence has been a neccesary tool for survival itself.

Predator & Prey
  When the first caveman killed his first animal, it could easily be conjectured that he was either killing for food or killing for defense. In either case, raw unmitigated bloody violence achieved the appropriate conclusion for the continuation of our species. The animal kingdom relies exclusively on violence as a means of perpetuating it's constiuents existence. The great decider, violence, was not created by humans. Humans merely got creative with it. Made war into an art form. Made violence itself a viable and acceptable form of entertainment. Nature accepted violence as a means for exacting the master plan we have come to call natural selection. The animals eat one another shamelessly. There is no more graphic and personal form of violence than to eat another living creature. As well, there is no more personal and graphically violent an experience, than being eaten alive. The harmony of life itself for all living creatures is eat and be eaten. Though while violence is practiced exclusively for survival in the animal kingdom, it is only in the realm of humans that we engage violence for other reasons than to eat. Exceptions to this can be found in the research of chimpanzees in the Gombi. My guess is we are witnessing the development of evolutionary change within the chimp's brain, possibly preparing them for more advanced forms of thought and action. Or, more concise, the exception that proves the rule. Look into the predators eyes immediately after the kill. As the survivng members of the prey look on, one cannot help but notice the look of embarrassment on the face of the predator. Of course one would have to look very close indeed as this is but a fleeting moment for the predator as hunger and satiation take hold and replace the embarrassment with mild disconcern for whomever is looking on. He must eat and taking the life of another allows him to do so. Then the countenance upon the predator's face falls into a serene sort of , 'well, what're you looking at?' Realising there is nothing more to be done or seen here, the prey once agian accept their collective fate and position in the world as nothing more than food for the predator.
   So too, do the people of this world. En mas humans behave very much as prey. Successful, aggressive people are few in numbers yet make for more affect and change than any number of the let us say less assertive masses. Politicians, bankers, corporate execs are just a few of the predatory types produced by our societies. These people prey on the masses not for their meat per se but for what their meat can produce when engaged with their more simple and less agressive minds attached. We all go to work and pay our bills and in exchange the predator keeps us in the pen, produce the goods and services that simple minds enjoy and that make these predators awful fat from the extreme and ludicrous profits they extract.

Religion, Supermarket for the Predator
  Religion has allowed for another more creative and aesthetic form of predation. The predation of the mind and soul. Because the masses, for some odd and unknown reason, have allowed other individuals to dictate to them a "correct" way to be spiritual. The idea of religion has become so warped and twisted and molded and shaped to fit just about any extremism.
  The basic idea of religion is quite a beautiful and uplifting form of human communion, although the predators of our species have taken hold of this wonderful concept of love and respect and twisted around so badly as to affect the opposite effect. In this, the year of someone's lord, we call 2003, religion is currently the single most dividing factor amongst the people of this planet. Some half a century ago, there was still quite a bit of war dealing with geography and boundarys and this is still the case today although not nearly as prevalent as religious disputes. Indeed, most of the boundary disputes have a connection to religious groups and the land they are tied to by belief.
  The point being that the people, the masses if you will, are quite willing to allow certain individuals to control, dictate and generally rule their lives with little or no accouting for themselves. Just like the lion sitting down to his first bites of fresh kill while the surviving prey look on.
  The big difference with humans is that is that there is no real reason to have a societal predator who relegates authority in exchange for gargantuan portions of profits. If capatalist religion-based societies are to function smoothly in a global sense then a solution towards spreading out the wealth would seem much more advantageous to the planet as a whole as opposed to the way things are now with CEO's and religious organisations reaping ridiculuosly exorbitant percentages whilst the "working class" are left with the scraps at the end.

The Corporate Predator
  Here in America, our economy is going south a bit, many jobs are being lost, medical care is a shambles and this humble writer can tell you for fact there is at least one individual who is making insane amounts of money from the Iraqi conflict. His name is Warren Buffet. You may have heard of him. Self-made billionaire, made his fortune in the stock market. Preying on the weak and gullible (after all how else does one make a zillion in the market) Mr. Buffet has created an empire for himself of wealth beyond imagination. He has been eating his prey in silence so as not to create to much attention to himself as he dines on the hard work and sweat of his employees, though his palaces around the world would indeed rival that of Saddam Hussien's collection of lavishly decadent residences. His company, Berkshire -Hathaway who's stock last checked was in the neighborhood of , get this, Sixty Thosand dollars a share!!, skyrocketed at the news that war was imminent with Iraq. Why?? Why of course, this company, Bekshire-Hathaway, is a holding and investment firm with huge contracts and interests in the manufacture and distribution of chemicals, hardware and software for the physical aspect known as the war machine. Bombs, tanks, missliles, bullets are all made from materials produced by companies bank-rolled by institutions controlled by our good friend and neighbor, Mr. Buffet.

   But let us not isolate on just poor Mr. Buffet alone. Know that there are maybe several dozens of his sort on the planet. No kidding, of the six-billion some people on this planet there are but a small handfull who have all the money. Oh sure , they had a bit more gitty-up and go then the most of us, still , their tactics for developing wealth are sneaky and very much anti-social.

   Of the more smaller fry example we can look at the CEO for United Airlines. His company went chapter 11 and yet still he will collect millions in severance and many more millions in stock options. These are rules he instituted as CEO!! United is laying off tons of folks because it can't afford to pay them yet it is perfectly legal for this one CEO to gouge a huge amount of the company's resources for himself and himself alone. How is this sort of thing allowed??

   Another example, and I assure you there are so very many more, but one which came to my attention just now to make the point;
   The Montana Power Company. In a nutshell, a company doing great, excellent financials and extremely reliable and secure operating future in the business of selling and distributing electrical energy to most of the western U.S.
  An east coast communications conglomerate ( comprised of some real viscious predator types) calls up the CEO's at Montana power and convinces them to get out of their current line of business and to sell them the company and turn it into a communications business. The CEO's at Montana Power decide it a good idea that they should make a company rule that if they sell the company to someone else they should get a signing bonus for doing so. Long story short, they did sell Montana Power to this east coast phone company for a song and a dance who dismantled it, leaving the western U.S. in an energy debacle, un-employing nearly all of the people in BUtte Montana who worked at the power company not to mention their pentions as well and of course, the CEO's got their five million dollar signing bonus for selling the company away. The communicatons company that replaced it, failed.

  AND THIS WHY YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN ARE GIVING THEIR LIVES IN THE FIELD OF BATTLE WHILE 40 PERCENT OF THE WORLD IS STARVING AND LACK MEDICAL CARE AND HOMELESSNESS IS RAMPANT AND GREED AND CORRUPTION STILL RULE THE DAY AS CORPORATE ENTITIES WITH NO FACES CHEW ON THE MEAT OF THE COMMON PERSON AND TAKE MUCH MUCH MORE THAN THEIR FAIR SHARE AND HOARD IT AND WAR FOR IT AND KILL FOR IT BECAUSE THIS IS THE AMERICAN WAY AND ANY PREDATOR IS FREE TO DO AS HE/SHE PLEASES SO LONG AS THEY CAN SHOW EXTREME PROFIT FOR THE CORPORATE WAY .

Freedom to take and exploit, freedom to intimidate and destroy, freedom to oppress and misinform to pad the bottom line. That's what Mr. Bush refers to when he speaks of freedom.

  I'm not free to puff a joint in the privacy of my own home. I'm not free to view morally debatable material either. I'm not free to commit euthanasia and women are still issuing over their right to make a choice about their own body. Yet it is perfectly alright to steal, rob, deceive and cheat one's way to the top of the money ladder. Yea, sure, you can't just go into a liqour store and hold 'em up and take their money, but you can create a company that allows you to reap immense sums from a failing company.
